Instead of deciding between Chinese and Japanese cuisine, your best bet is trying a fusion of the two and visiting Zodiac, the pan-Asian playground of Moscow’s noteworthy chef, Vladimir Mukhin. Zodiac is simple yet playful: the contemporary design includes a wall of plants, while the menu ranges from wok noodles and sushi to whimsical dishes, such as pig ears with green apples and shiso leaves. The waiter’s recommendation of “crispy eggplants” with tomatoes in duck sauce, emblematic of chef Mukhin’s inspired approach, is a must. The Russian spirit he imbues his food is never far, though – the eggplants, for example, are decorated with the typical Russian toppings of parsley and onion. Overall, too unique a restaurant to be missed.
