If you can't swim 800 metres, or you don't want to, you can safely cross the Nieuwe Meer by boat between April and September. This seasonal ferry has been running since 1990 and thousands of people use it every year. The Amsterdam Forest, with all its bars and restaurants, tourist attractions and natural beauty, is now a lot more accessible for the residents of Nieuw-West due to this nostalgic ferry crossing.
