Although one can't compare it to the grandiose Artis Zoo, a visit to this small petting zoo is a pleasant and free alternative and a great place to go with the kids. It's conveniently located inside the quiet Sloterpark and a good place to take a break while strolling around the lake. You can walk through its pastures where you can see and pet horses, pigs, sheep, alpacas, rabbits and pigeons. During the summer you can buy drinks and snacks for affordable prices and the friendly staff will be happy to show you around. There's also another petting zoo called Strohalm a few blocks away at Cort van der Lindenkade 5.
