Mercantour National Park

19 Jul 2019
For those seeking to explore a landscape made of mountains, lakes, and gorges, Mercantour National Park is the right place. Located about an hour away from Nice by car, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence and Alpes-Maritimes, the park is a perfect destination for a day trip. It is nice to get away from the water and busy streets and just enjoy the relaxing adventure in the mountains. The park was created in 1979 and has numerous trails in different parts of the park.

There are many valleys as well as villages in this area, all of which present magnificent views. There are beautiful lakes spread perfectly in some of the valleys and when standing at a higher point, the views are stunning. Some of the most popular lakes at the park are Lake of Allos, Lakes of Vens, Lake of Lauzanier, and Lakes of Morgon.

During spring and summer seasons, beautiful species of flowers blossom and paint the ultimate postcard picture of Mercantour National Park. In the winter season, when the mountains are covered in snow, the park turns to a top ski destination. There are chalets built at the ski resort if visitors choose to stay there.

There are different itineraries for day trips from Nice to Mercantour National Park, depending on the interests of the visitors. Some just go there for the views, others want to hike or ride a donkey in the hills, and some take the gourmet tour that comes with a complete lunch.
