Lake Dojran

more than a year ago
Also known as Lake Doiran across the water in Greece who share this magnificent body of water with its Macedonian neighbours, Lake Dojran covers an area of just over 40 square kilometres and is perhaps most famous for its role during the fierce battles that were waged here during the First World War. Rich in delicious fish and recently brought back from the brink of ecological disaster, the lake comes into its own during the summer when hordes of tourists descend on Star Dojran to frolic on its shores, swim, rent boats and generally escape the heat of the surrounding air. Star Dojran features several good hotels along the lake’s shoreline, making the place an ideal location for water-lovers of all descriptions to base themselves.
