Frauenkirche

Hauptmarkt 14     more than a year ago
The first Gothic church to be built in Franconia was built between 1355 and 1358 on the orders of Emperor Karl IV. Built on the site of a former synagogue that was destroyed during the pogrom of 1349, Frauenkirche was built by the master stone mason Peter Parler, who also worked on the Prague Cathedral. Rich in detail, the large clock was built in 1509 and performs and elaborate pageant (the Männleinlaufen) daily at 12:00. Inside find a host of gorgeous treasures including the wonderful Peringsdoerfer Epitaph with Madonna from 1498.
