Gardens of the Hesperides

Johannisstr.     more than a year ago
Actually part of a two-part ensemble made up of these superb gardens and St. John's Cemetery, this place features high on the itinerary if you like that beguiling mixture of life and death. St. John's Cemetery proudly claims to be one of Germany's most beautiful cemeteries, and features the graves of several illustrious former citizens including Albrecht Dürer and the Renaissance sculptor Veit Stoß (1438-1533). The Gardens of the Hesperides, that adjoin the cemetery are named after the nymphs from Greek mythology who supposedly look after a beautiful garden in the western corner of the ancient world.
