spoils live music fans each summer with over a month of daily jazz concerts during the Summer Jazz Festival. First organised in 1996 to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the important artistic and literary venue Piwnica Pod Baranami, the festival has gradually grown into the biggest jazz festival in Poland. Each year since 2001, the first Sunday of July is celebrated with an all-day event of outdoor concerts on the Market Square and Plac Szczepański called 'New Orleans Sunday.' That event sparks a month of concerts every evening in Piwnice Pod Baranami (starting at 21:00) and Harris Jazz Piano Bar (starting at 21:30) - two historic jazz clubs right on the Kraków Market Square, plus dozens of conceerts in venues all across Kraków. It's not all local bands and Polish musicians in small venues however; headline concerts in major music venues also take place, with this year's roster of international stars including Pat Methany (June 27 in ICE), Jan Garabrek (June 28 in Kino Kijów), Kenny Garrett Quintet (July 21 in Kino Kijów) and Nicholas Payton Trio (July 25 in Manggha). With scores of concerts planned, check the full programme here; tickets here.
