Metrum Restobistro

*Update: As of October 2024, Metrum Restobistro has been restricted exclusively to students and staff of the Music Academy due to its popularity with tourists - who were disrupting the function of the academic building, and essentially treating the restaurant as a viewpoint (rather than eatery). As a result, it is no longer accessible to anyone who does not have proper identification.*

One of Kraków's best kept secrets, this modest student restaurant on the 6th floor of the Kraków Music Academy (take the elevator!) boasts two fantastic rooftop patios with beautiful panoramic views over the Old Town. Partially covered in glass, in winter you can still stay warm (but also step out into the air for photos!), while in summer there are exposed tables right on the roof of the city. The menu of Polish and Italian dishes is priced for starving musicians, and about a half step above most student canteens. But it's not about the food, it's about the incredible views, which are absolutely worth checking out, whether you're hungry or not. They are also open early for breakfast, which is a very relaxing time to be there.

Note that as this is an academic building, and they don't serve alcohol. The opening hours are based on the academic calendar, so when there are school holidays (like all of July and August) the restaurant is generally closed.

Hi, Could you tell me if I have to book to get a table? Or can I just walk in?

I don't know of any other place with such beautiful, completely free views, right in the centre. There is also the terrace of Hotel Kossak, but it's less polite to just go up there and snap photos. The Music Academy is also a lot higher than it looks, rising just over all of the neighbouring buildings. Check it out.
