Szczecin's Venice

When hopping off the train at Szczecin Główny, its hard for a newly-arrived visitor to see anything particularly remarkable about this end of the city. However, just a stone-throw away is a location that lends itself to Szczecin's riverside location. Found between the Oder bank of the 'Nowe Miasto' district and Jaskółcza Island, Szczecin's Venice (PL: Wenecja Szczecińska) is a complex of historical industrial buildings, most notably an old yeast factory and an alcohol manufacturer, on Kolumba street, which have sunken into the water. The back-side of these buildings can be toured as a part of local kayaking company offers. Apparently, Szczecin City Council wants to adapt these buildings as hotels or for other recreational uses!
