Juicy burgers and lip-smacking ribs are the order of the day at this casual eatery. The emphasis is on the quality of the food and you'll taste it immediately – grass-fed beef burgers placed on a seeded brioche milk bun.
The experts will tell you that the secret to a great burger is a sweet bun and a ground beef patty that that hasn't been processed to look like its stackable (this part you don't need an expert for). There are also carb-free versions of all the burgers on the menu (lettuce cups filled with rocket, tomato, onion salsa and vinaigrette) and great options for vegetarians that include a veggie stack and Moroccan falafel. Before the traditionalists recoil, there is The Aussie burger with the works – 150g beef patty with beetroot, Swiss cheese, bacon, fried egg, lettuce, tomato and pickles. It's like a supermarket trolley on a burger.
The beef ribs basted in Ribs and Burgers signature BBQ sauce are highly recommended, and there's also an option of pork ribs or lemon and herb basted lamb ribs.
Ribs and Burgers prides itself on its pink sauce – a South African invention (and if not, we are laying claim) of mixing mayonnaise and ketchup to combine the best of two sauce worlds. The Ribs and Burgers brand hails from Australia but has some South African at the heart of its story. It's a family-owned chain that also has branches in the UK.
An absolute standout on the menu are the seasoned onion rings, lightly battered and to be ordered in the family portion. There is also a range of smaller meals on the "Little Butcher' menu and must-taste thick shakes – try the Salted Caramel.
With seating spilling out onto the sheltered sidewalk this is a refreshing out-of-the-mall Sandton destination and despite its location at one of Sandton's swankiest addresses, The Marc building, also home to Saint restaurant, Ribs and Burgers offers excellent value for money.
