This self-proclaimed gastropub in the posh Berga Bazārs shopping arcade provides a Spartan, industrial style interior with polished cement floors made warmer by the addition of pinewood covered walls and colourful local paintings. International cuisine made with eco-friendly Latvian produce is listed on menus made of flimsy recycled paper and you can choose from Mediterranean tapas, fish and meat dishes and vegetarian options like ravioli stuffed with mushrooms and spinach, not to mention a dozen thin-crust pizzas. An impressive selection of wine and beer is available and the kids can hangout in a special play area while mom and dad enjoy the summer terrace.

We just had a very late lunch at Cydonia's a wonderful restaurant which we had found by sheer chance. The food was outstanding! We had Yoghourt Soup with Shrimps Pan-Fried Sander Fillet with Oven-Baked Potatos on Spinach and Chorizo a series of Tapas and Pear baked in red wine with Caramel Strings Creme Chantilly and Latvian Berries- served on an oilstone plate. Wonderful food and even more wonderful service. The price for such a plethora of quality was surprising low- 24.10 Lats! This included my wife's Mosel White Wine and my pint of local Cherry Beer a huge vodka and a rare-to-find in Riga perfect Italian espresso! Too bad we will be leaving Riga tomorrow!

This is the best restaurant in Riga. The food is truly outstanding. It may not be classic Latvian cuisine but it's imaginative delicious and presented with flair and aplomb. The service is top-notch as well. This may be the best-kept gastronomic secret in the entire city but given the exceptional quality that secret is sure to get out. Well done Cydonia.
