Housed in the former Casa Bucur (a place you could write a book about) it is a very good Romanian restaurant serving the kind of food you only usually get in people's homes - and only then if they are great cooks. Seriously: only in two or three other places in Bucharest will you find carnati de oaie (mutton sausages) or a bors de peste as good as there. If you are feeling really hungry go for the platou mioritic: a huge plate of meaty treats. They serve their own beer, which is highly drinkable and a bargain at 7.90 lei per pint.

They may have good food, but did a terrible job in redecorating the building with low quality materials in a most unprofessional way. The food experience would be much enhanced and more exquisite when served in authentic surroundings such as this grand old house was meant to be by its architect. Casa Bucur is a jewel of Neo-Romanian style architecture, which requires specialist skills when undertaking a renovation. The Hanu' Berarilor business owners took the lease or bought the building not long ago and then set themselves immediately to make a quick buck on the back of naive tourists. They have to undergo a catharsis in their appreciation of the ambient and architectural heritage of Casa Bucur, but that is already too much asking from the businessmen of today Romania.
