Taking the name of Sackheim, which was a nearby working class district in the east of Königsberg, this was the gate (albeit in an older guise) through which the Prussian general Yorck von Wartenburg entered in January 1813 to take the city and begin his successful westward march against Napoleon. As with several of the other older gates in the city, it was modernised and strengthened in the 1850s and 60s. You can take a look inside where there is a cafe and a hall holding various temporary exhibitions. Also of note are the neighbouring apartment buildings which date to the first half the 20th century and give you an idea of how the walls were adapted into living space once the fortifications were believed to have become obselete.
