Be sure to take a Russian-speaker with you along to this little apartment/museum/office, as if you don’t know Russian you will miss out on a lot of the experience. This apartment is the working office and museum of a group of residents of the notorious building, who have made it their life’s work to trace all the former residents who disappeared into GULAGs during the years of repression. So far they have tracked down more than 800 names but they know there are many more. The exhibit includes furniture from the austere 1930s, as well as paintings, photos and a scale model of a typical apartment - complete with hollow walls for listening in on residents.
