Since 2003, Moscow’s Artplay has been a mecca for creativity, art and leisure. Now the people behind this project are branching out to St. Petersburg. Although not much is happening at their new location in St. Petersburg (it was officially opened only in December, 2016) they have some very ambitious plans to turn the former Central Construction Bureau for Machine Building into a unique multifunctional space that will give Moscow’s Artplay a real run for its money.

Artplay St. Petersburg was launched with a bang - literally and metaphorically. The first multimedia exhibition to take place in the art cluster was “Cosmos. Love”, an immersive display dedicated to outer space and mankind’s understanding of it - from utopic visions of moving our race to Mars to modern technologies of space exploration. All this to the music of David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Georgiy Sviridov and others.

In the future, the more than 100,000 square meter space will be divided into 5 interrelated zones: a multifunctional multimedia exhibition space, a hobby center for activities ranging from a dance school to graffiti classes, a creative industry cluster for everything and anything related to design and architecture, a hotel and a recreational zone designed by leading landscape designers for leisurely walks by the river. Various events as well as open air concerts, festivals and more will take place here. Keep an eye out for news because there will be many to come in the coming months and years.
