The Literature Museum in the Pushkin House bills itself as a “museum of museums”, and indeed it serves as a kind of warehouse for many different collections of literary paraphernalia. Waiting for the muse to strike? Check out Ostrovsky’s writing desk, imagine sitting your butt down in Tolstoy’s chair or peering through Dostoevsky’s glasses. The exhibits are broken down by time period, stretching from the mid-18th to the early 20th century, with an especially large selection of Tolstoy and Lermontov memorabilia. Information pages about each hall are available in a variety of languages, but item labels are in Russian only.
