A former riding hall for the Imperial Horse Guards right on St. Isaac's Square in St. Petersburg, the central exhibition hall Manege is now the largest exposition complex in the city's center. After massive renovation works that took place between 2013 and 2016, there is always something happening here now: world class art exhibitions, lectures and master classes, cultural seminars, concerts and film screenings. Manege was built in 1804-07, according to Quarenghi's austere Neoclassical design. The Horse Guards Boulevard (this is how you translate Konnogvardeisky bul. where Manege is located) takes its name from the building. According to the Companion Guide, "it mimics a 5th-century BC Athenian temple with a portico of eight Doric columns bearing a pediment and bas reliefs".
