The 40m high needle and memorial statues are the first sight anyone sees as they travel toward the city from Pulkovo airport. The Blockade Museum, with its imposing mosaic walls is located underneath the square. Exhibits include handwritten letters written by boys requesting permission to fight on the front and film footage of the Siege. A big copper diary turns describing what happened on that day during the Siege.
