De Leuvense Poort

St Jorisstraat 125     more than a year ago
These days the oldest prison in the Netherlands only hosts voluntary guests. Renamed De Leuvense Poort, the former penitentiary now acts as a place where young, creative entrepreneurs interact. What used to be work spaces of the doctor, the chaplain, the librarian and the jail keeper now accommodate a colourful mixture of vibrant business professionals. Those who have never done time but are curious to find out what it's like to stay in a prison can drop by and have a look. The impressive inner court looks like the backdrop to Elvis Presley's legendary hit Jailhouse Rock.
