It is the most popular place in the city for young people to gather and practice sports, especially surf. The features of this 800-meter beach make it perfect for practising this kind of sport and so it is little wonder that several major championships are organised here throughout the year. Less posh and busy than those in the bay (Playa de la Concha and Playa de Ondarreta), it has a more intimate ambience, with a really young atmosphere. Located in the Gros commercial district, bordered by 19th and 20th century buildings, it sits at the mouth of the River Urumea, beyond modern Kursaal Auditorium and Congress Centre.
