Adjacent to the Old Town, under the western corner of Mount Urgull, the small Port of Donostia has always retained its unique spirit and is the perfect place to get a feel for the roots of the Donostian people. Lined with two-floor picturesque homes, it is a nice place for sitting down and relaxing for a bit, while enjoying the magical sunset with a great view of La Concha and Mount Igueldo.
At the far end of the port, visit the Aquarium if you want to discover more about Donostian’s relationship with the sea through the centuries. Firstly, in the Nature Science Museum area, you will understand the importance of the sea in the history of Gipuzkoa. A highlight not to be missed here is the complete skeleton of a right whale caught in 1878. After the museum, the visit continues through the aquariums. The most impressive one is a 1.8-million-liter aquarium which can be crossed through a glass tunnel.
