Sample the life of both upstairs and downstairs at this elegant 18th century mansion which was home to the Stirling Maxwell family of Pollock. It’s a delightful oasis, in the heart of Pollok Country Park, which was awarded 'Best Park in Europe' status last year. Containing a fine collection of family furniture, silver and glassware, as well as some wonderful paintings by Goya, Murillo and El Greco it was gifted to the city of Glasgow by Mrs Anne Maxwell Macdonald in 1966. Don’t miss the William Blake paintings in the Cedar Room: Adam naming the Beasts, Eve naming the Birds and the Canterbury Pilgrims. The extensive Servants Quarters in the basement provided space for the army of servants needed to keep the house running smoothly. Group photographs of the staff still hang outside the Edwardian kitchen which is now a restaurant. Surrounded by beautiful gardens, wild life, Highland cattle and Clydesdale horses.
