Shkodra's small beach resort of Velipoja, near the Montenegrin border 30 kilometres south of town, is popular with holidaymakers from across Albania and Kosovo, and increasingly also from further away. With family-friendly hotels and restaurants, a long sandy beach and beautiful rivers, lagoons and marshes in the surroundings, it's a relaxed spot for a day trip ot a holiday. In summer, it's good to be prepared for mosquitos and to have patience in the restaurants that will be working at full capacity.
