Restaurant New York & Rock Cafe

Top place behind the big hotels on Piata Unirii, a lunchtime favourite of the lawyers who earn a living at the nearby court. Excellent food (including a great breakfast menu: it is open early) as well as an upbeat vibe and - as the evening wears on - a crowd that likes to chat before heading through to the Rock Cafe in the back. They have occasional live acts here, and at other times show video of memorable rock gigs from around the world on the big screens. Extra points for a terrace in summer, and a good alternative to the places on the central squares.
