Founded way back in 1892 by medicine students in Vinohrady as a way to get people to be more active, Slavia didn’t really kick off as a football club until 1905 with the arrival of Scotsman John Madden. Madden brought tactical innovation and new ideas to football in the city, and under his stewardship Slavia won 134 out of 169 matches. The red and whites were solid throughout the Czechoslovak times, and their solidity continued into the independent Czech league.
