Best beer spots in Skopje

more than a year ago

If you are a beer fan, you'll likely know the struggle of finding a good pub or bar even in a city you know well, let alone a new one. Most places just have two or three options and not very good ones, hardly the vast offer of quality beers to satisfy the ale gourmet in you. This is why we've decided to make a list of best bars for beer in this beautiful city.

Distrikt Bar & Kitchen

The Skopje Marriott’s ground floor terrace bar and open kitchen is one of the hottest locations in town, a classic Marriott incarnation aimed at well-heeled locals, expats and business travellers looking for great food, a terrific view and a whole host of extras including DJs, special themed events and the quintessential Marriott Sunday brunch. A welcome addition to Skopje’s going out venues for all occasions.

Pub Porta

A nice place to drop by with friends after a hard day, Porta offers one of the largest selections of beers in Skopje, and the prices are also quite wallet-friendly. Like any good pub, they also serve food, especially dishes that go well with beer, including staples such as chicken wings, onion rings and melted cheese.

Beertija Pub

Beertija is a combination of a word 'beer' (I'm sure we all know what that is) and a Macedonian word 'birtija' (which is a kinda oldish pub, a place where you are not likely to find decent crowd hanging around). Luckily this is not a real 'birtija' and is instead full of youngsters in search of good fun, nice beers and rock sounds. During the day it is just a regular place to get your coffee, but when th night falls, local djs and bands take over and the fun begins.

St Patrick

Known to everyone including the expats who keep the place open as the Irish pub, this long-standing Skopje institution on the Kej across from the Old Bazaar comes with a Victorian railway theme and a bar that stocks draught Guinness. There’s bar snacks galore, live music at the weekends and a very pleasant outdoor terrace on the edge of the water during the more clement part of the year.

Centar Bar

Very urban and rather dark, with mostly black and other such colours dominating an otherwise industrial-feeling establishment, what you lose in the lack of romance you more than make up for in other ways, especially if you're visiting with a large group of friends. The beers good, but then so's the food. Combine them both for the best results.

Cosy

This innocent-looking bar in Debar Maalo is now a well established favourite among the city’s growing number of beer fans, and for good reason. Run by an extremely welcoming and tolerant group of people and serving a range of good snacks alongside an impressive range of bottled beer Belgium, Germany, Macedonia and the Netherlands, keep an eye out for the tasting evenings and bear in mind that you can rent the entire place out for your own party if you wish.

Kolektiv

Located in one of the best spots in the city, the people at Kolektiv have put on a fine show indeed. Part craft beer pub and part restaurant, we recommend you indulge in some of their home-produced beer before trying the impressive range of imported ales. On the menu front, find classic bar dishes including a great ratatouille and the house special, named after the place and featuring a plate of ribs, sausages, chicken and beer kebabs.

Pivnica Star Grad (Temov)

Macedonia’s first microbrewery churns out some excellent quality craft beer in their Old Bazaar-located bar. The family-run business adheres to the German Reinheitsgebot system of brewing, ensuring the beer in question is as pure as possible, and the bar is also worth a visit if you’re hungry as they also serve a range of excellent food to accompany the alcohol including burgers and big plates of snacks for sharing. The owners also have a second venue, Kolektiv, on Plostad Makedonija, and their unique and highly commendable products are slowly starting to appear in other venues around the city.

Woodstock Beer Bar

Not too far from the city center, you'll find Woodstock Beer Bar. The place really looks the part, with big murals of Kurt Cobain, Bob Marley, Jim Morrison and others on the wall, it truly gives of that rock n roll feel. The music played here is in accordance with the ambience. It has two levels, the lower is darkish, while the upper is in bright colors, very hip.

Pub 18

At Pub 18 they have a very large offer of beer, both bottled and tap, and often have discounts and promotions of certain labels. The place is very popular amongst the locals, who also like to come here and watch the game with friends. Another great thing about this place is that they also serve food.
