This month, we bring word that The Whippet Coffee Company in Linden is stretching its legs with an expansion – more space, a shiny new menu, and local flair in both art and furniture. Cape Town’s Kleinsky’s arrives in Melrose with bagels, breakfast, and tantalising noshes. For 24/7 pizza lovers, you'll love the new Andiccio24 in Parkhurst 4th Avenue, which now includes Baglios' delectable gelato. Asian Herbivore is bringing the spice with meat-free Asian street eats, while pretty Garden Fresh in Parktown North is practically a salad in café form – fresh, green, and glow-up approved. Seafood boil and Portuguese food with soul? Boa Vida’s got you covered.
When it comes to garage grub, forget about the pies – Deli One , Relish Café , and The Pantry are turning petrol stops into gourmet pit stops. For fancy, curated bites, Saint’s Supper Club is dishing up dinner with a side of exclusivity. The Pot Luck Club at The Peech Hotel brings back its popular Prix Fixe menus for winter 2025, with exceptional value across the board. And for the ladies who enjoy wine, lunch, and socialising, Liberté Ladies Club is your new sanctuary.
New and noteworthy around Joburg

The breakfast crowds and brunch-goers will be delighted to know that The Whippet Coffee Company is expanding. If you've been in the queue to get a table here on a weekend morning, you'll know what a big deal this is. The beloved Linden joint was recently voted as No.89 on the World's Best Coffee Shops 2025 list, according to Coffeefest Madrid. The new and improved venue will feature art and furniture from local entrepreneurs, some added legroom, and a refreshed menu. PINK MAMA'S SETTLES INTO DUNKELD

Pretty as a picture, Pink Mama’s brings authentic, al fresco Italian fare to Dunkeld – located in a beautiful old house next to Joy Jozi, where the restaurant Livy’s used to be. Every bite was delicious, from the zucchini fritti – crisped to perfection, mama’s meatballs, and refreshing cocktails. It’s a superb spot for a long, relaxed lunch shared with friends and family. CAPE DISPATCH: KLEINSKY'S EN ROUTE TO JOBURG

Craving a proper New York-style bagel? Cape Town’s cult-favourite deli Kleinsky’s is finally heading to Joburg. Known for its killer bagels, breakfasts, and an array of classics inspired by the Big Apple, they've built a loyal following from Sea Point to Gardens in the City Bowl. Now, they’re bringing their noshes (snacks, light meals) to Birdhaven, Melrose – and we’ll be first in line.
ANDICCIO'S X BAGALIOS OPENS IN PARKHURST, 24-7
It doesn't get any better than round-the-clock pizza or ice cream – until you pair them, that is. Andiccio24 has opened a brand-new restaurant on Parkhurst's 4th Avenue for 24/7 fun, complemented with Italian gelato from Baglios. We popped in for a margherita and a few scoops (pistachio and chocolate) and loved the energy in-store. We're looking forward to more of this tasty collab.
BOILING OVER AT NORWOOD'S BOA VIDA

We love discovering new places to eat in the city, and stumbling upon Boa Vida in Norwood recently was such an occasion. Even more to our surprise, they serve a seafood boil – a dish that's rather hard to come by in Joburg. The internet has not quite gotten over this culinary sensation; a quick TikTok search pulls up millions of views – cracking crab legs, buttery corn dips, and fingers drenched in Cajun spice. It’s messy, mouthwatering, and made to share. Authentic Portuguese spot Boa Vida brings the viral feast to Joburg, serving it up alongside classic Portuguese faves like flame-grilled peri-peri chicken, creamy prawn curry, and the crowd-fave steak prego. All food is strictly halaal. Don't want to venture out? Order your seafood boil via Uber Eats.
Fresh finds in the city
VEG LOVE AT ASIAN HERBIVORE

With a menu that features creamy soya milk ramen, sushi sandwiches, pineapple fried rice, and kimbap , Asian Herbivore – an Asian fusion vegetarian/vegan restaurant located at Melrose Crossing – is known for its bold and flavourful plant-based takes on street food and comfort classics. The eatery's menu is a whirlwind of Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Indonesian cuisines. It’s a favourite among Joburg locals looking for hearty, meat-free meals. Dine-in, takeaway, and delivery options are available. Check out their website for more information.
GREEN GOODNESS AT GARDEN FRESH

Seeking top-quality produce and all things fresh, healthy, and fabulous? Garden Fresh in Parktown North has just what you need. Beyond its pretty architectural storefront, the space inside features a juice and salad bar where freshly prepared cold-pressed juices and nutritious meals go hand in hand. Once you get over the selection of vegetables, fruits, flowers, and other produce, spend time browsing the pantry selection packed with goods from local producers like ButtaNut, Nomu, Oh Oat, and plenty more. Also on the property are Munch Cafe and the GardenShop nursery.
