Whether you’re a thrifter, collector or designer-label enthusiast, you can be sure that somewhere in Joburg there is something new for you. Every month we scout out shopping hot spots, pop-ups and the latest labels that may not yet be on your radar…

Keeping up with kimonos

Embrace tradition with a twist, the kimono comeback is here. Photo: Project Inflamed via Facebook.

Reviving Japanese chic, kimonos strut back into the limelight as the ultimate style statement. These T-shaped, free-flowing robes are reclaiming the fashion scene, seamlessly pairing with jeans or tailored pants for an effortless look with more character. Elevate your wardrobe with the vibrant hues of Project Inflamed in Maboneng or opt for the denim allure at Ifuku's store at 44 Stanley.

Find your scent with JUCE fragrances

It's time to up your fragrance game with Juce. Photo: Juce Fragrances via Facebook.
We've seen their minimalist bottles on social media and were immediately intrigued. Juce Fragrances , born in Cape Town in 2022, is all about wow-worthy scent experiences that capture your personality but don't break the bank. Their scents are sourced from the fragrance mecca of Grasse, France, with a local twist in their bottling process for that extra charm. Their perfumes are top-tier and will make sure your scent is still wafting around the room even after you leave (in a good way). Plus, you've got Jennie, their online fragrance guru, who will help you find your perfect scent, like Coastal Daze (think Tom Ford Neroli Portofino vibes), Miss Jasmine (hello, Gucci Bloom), or Golden Boy (Paco Rabanne 1 Million Man).

An acclaimed Joburg-based fashion brand, MaXhosa is set to make its international debut in February with the opening of its first store in Soho, New York. The news was enthusiastically shared by Laduma Ngxokolo, the visionary behind Maxhosa, on Instagram in November 2023. Known for its distinctive blend of traditional African aesthetics and contemporary design, MaXhosa has garnered international acclaim for its innovative approach to fashion. The brand has become synonymous with luxurious knitwear adorned with vibrant patterns inspired by Xhosa beadwork and cultural heritage. And we're here for it.

With a commitment to sustainability, this luxury label is turning heads with stylish frames in unique designs and colours. A must for Joburgers who really want to stand out, but you better hurry because the 44 Stanley pop-up shuts shop at the end of Jan.

Thebe Magugu x Canada Goose

We're in love with this Heirloom Mystique Parka by Thebe Magugu x Canada Goose. Photo: Canada Goose.

While it may not be cold yet, Thebe Magugu's collaboration with Canada Goose demands attention. Hailing from Johannesburg, Magugu, with his eponymous label, intertwines cultural honour, novelty, and unwavering quality. Infusing tradition with modern flair, he transforms Canada Goose's Mystique Parka with a Basotho blanket-inspired print (and we're a bit obsessed; it also features his signature Sisterhood emblem). Bring on that Joburg winter!
