In the far eastern part of North Macedonia close to the border with Bulgaria, and named after the river that runs through it, the bustling city of Strumica dates back to at least the 2nd century BC when it was first mentioned by Ptolemy and Pliny. Notable for its substantial Turkish population and boasting several fantastic sights both in and around the city, Strumica deserves a day’s visit or perhaps even more.
