This magnificent example of a stately, traditional Ottoman-era konak house is at least 300 years old, and has over the centuries served as a military building, a hospital and even a women’s prison. Now owned by the Albanian artist Sali Shijaku (1933) and surrounded by a beautiful garden, the villa operates as a café and gallery containing a large collection of Impressionist and Socialist Realist paintings. Well worth visiting for a glimpse of Old Tirana.
