Monument to the Liberators

Freedom Square     more than a year ago
Another statue loaded with symbolism, the World War I Monument to the Liberators pays homage to yet another great tragedy that befell the Serbian people during that horrific conflict. It was here on this city centre spot that 77 men and two women were hanged during the war, and this statue came into being some twenty years after the liberation of the city. It is an elegant memorial, a long plinth with an angel stood on top, simplicity and power in abundance.
