Monuments dedicated to the great Petar II Petrović-Njegoš may be ten-a-penny in this part of the world, but only one statue gets to call itself the ‘first’. You may have guessed from that intro that this here statue is that very one, the very first monument built to the poet and philosopher who dragged Montenegro towards modernity and wrote one of the great Serbian epic poems in the process. The statue stands in the very centre of town.
