Paper tickets for single journeys can be bought from the driver for €1 for a single journey of any length. Tickets must be validated by punching them in the machine nearby. This simple system should be more than adequate, although it’s worth mentioning the Vilniečio Kortelė, an electronic card available for €1.50 from kiosks around town and at the airport. Buy a number of journeys and top the card up when you need. The most useful top-up options are for journeys lasting up to 30 minutes at €0.65 and up to 60 minutes for €0.90 on any number of vehicles within the allotted time. One-day (€5), three-day (€8) and five-day (€12) tickets are also available. Hold the card against the yellow machine and the fare will be automatically deducted. The capital’s public transport system starts working at around 05:00 and continues throughout the day until around 23:00. A limited night bus service operates on Friday and Saturday nights until around 03:00 as well as on special occasions. Night buses don’t accept the Vilniečio Kortelė. Tickets cost €1 and should be purchased from the driver. Find schedules online at www.vilniustransport.lt and more about the Vilniečio Kortelė at www.vilniusticket.lt.
