Bambalynė

  Stiklių 7      (+370) 52 40 56 70     more than a year ago

Featuring somewhere in the region of 100 Lithuanian microbrewery beers served in a spooky Medieval cellar, Bambalynė counts among a number of specialist bars in the city catering to the tastes of those who like their ale local rather than multinational. The beers in question range from light to dark and should keep all but the fussiest drunk and delighted for hours.

Wonderful brick cellar atmosphere, if you are curious enough what lies behind the steep stairs, well-hidden behind an unspectacular entrance door. Finally an honest smile always opens hearts of waitresses, who sometimes seem to be annoyed by too many drunken idiots without manners.

Really didn't enjoy this place. I was initially impressed with the setting and the sheer amount of beer but my delight soon trickled away. The bar lady was the rudest of all I have experienced. As mentioned on this site Lithuanian bar staff have a rather brusque reputation. In general I didn't find this to be the case at all. However this girl was horrendous. The process here is very different to any other bar. Instead of table service you find a beer you want from the hearty selection and take it to the bar. I was there with a friend and we didn't know this. I asked the bar lady what the process was and she immediately snapped her orders at me in a "Why don't you already know this you fool?" manner. I'm a polite English gent. She treated me like a naughty schoolboy. However we took her attitude with a pinch of salt and bought a large bottle of dark Beer to share. It wasn't good. It was flat lifeless and dull. There must've been around 30 to choose from so we assumed we'd bought the only duffer. Next up we bought two smaller bottles. Seven lots each! Bargain. The bar lady resented us handing over further money but snatched it from our hands anyway. The beer wasn't good. I think it was called 'Vilnius Ale'. It had gone off years ago. There was no point telling the harridan and no chance of changing our glasses for new so we had to force it down. Tasted like cabbage. Urgh. Finally we wiped the glasses clean and tried another. No point. It was dishwater.I was very disappointed with this place. It has so much going for it. Great setting good atmosphere (minus the ice maiden) and lots of beer. Good snacks too. But the girl's attitude combined with the vile beer was enough to put me off going ever again. If you do find yourself there give it a try. I hope they have different staff and I hope you drink better beer than us. I'll not go back. There are so many better places to choose from.

If you like beer, do not miss this wonderful place! Charming, cozy and calm little cellar bar with great service, this is the perfect place for a small groups, a quiet chat, solitary reflection or a read. Large range of excellent region micro-brewery beers including some non-pasteurised and non-filtered (sadly hard to find in other countries). Small selection of snack food (please bring back the Kibinye!) and decent coffee was enough to draw us back again and again. This was our favourite place in Vilnius and I couldn't imagine a visit to the city without several beers here.
