A small town just an hour of so from Višegrad (and 45 minutes from Sarajevo), Sokolac is situated in an area of rare beauty. The Romanija mountain is king in these parts, and all the majesty of that karst plateau is famous for is reprised in and around the town. That beauty is allied with a sombre doffing of the cap towards the tumultuous history of this part of the world, with a number of poignant memorials and respectful monuments.
