Mata Hari

  Langstrasse 237      (+41) 43 205 22 50     more than a year ago

This Tiki-style bar is named after the famous exotic strip-dancer and spy from the Netherlands, and has a sort of exotic hard rock island feel. The omnipresent red plush, the bar made of bamboo, the masks depicting gods with some weird names and the cocktails that are served in ceramic volcanos give the place its genuine, slightly bizarre touch. The sound is strictly guitars, the crowd between rough and hip. Leave your tie at home and grab one of those old rock t-shirts of yours you thought you were never going to wear again.

When I dropped by a DJ was playing old school rock and punk hits while what appeared to be a roller derby team occupied the tiny dance floor (some only in their bras). Order one of the crazy dry ice cocktails, especially the "infamous" Volcano!
