Buying food in the Netherlands is not about one stop shopping. Of course they have supermarkets here, but while they've vastly improved over the last decade, there are still too many watery hot house tomatoes and crispy jetlagged nectarines for my liking. If you can't afford the superior wares at sustainable chic supermarket, you will need to embrace the European way of shopping here. Visit the daily open-air markets for your fresh fish, meat and local, seasonal produce. Drop in at a specialty baker for your bread. Or stop by that fabulous cheese shop for your favorite fromage.
