Barbados
If you’ve visited their Gdańsk location you’ll know what to expect – late nights, unremarkable interiors and a safe music policy that favours chart hits.

Barbaresco
A split-level restobar with a weird design that’s halfway between Gaudi and gaudy. Sitting under a chandelier contraption is an option, though most choose the terrace to escape the eye teasing visuals.

Bohema Jazz Club
Attached to the corner of the Multikino cinema, this is a decent bar with an English-style feel and a wrought-iron staircase which leads up to a pleasant mezzanine level.

Cafe Strych
This fisherman’s cottage is a one in an unique experience and a soothing relief from the sepia blocks outside. Full of shambolic

Charlie
We’re confused by Charlie. This Chaplin-themed restaurant calls itself a jazz-centered “music pub,” but when we inquired with the staff about live music we were told it only extends to playing CDs over the speakers.

Coco
Way sexy, Coco lines drinkers up along a narrow bar, where the bartenders are deft in their mixology and the results can lead to clumsy conclusions.

Contrast Cafe
A seaside cabin decked out to resemble an old ship. It’s been done before in Gdynia, but few venues carry it off like Contrast.

Cyganeria
Gdynia’s number one ‘bar noir’ has a heady reputation going back to the days when student revolutionaries would plot the overthrow of the government in here.

Degustatornia Dom Piwa
Hard to find (side alley, down some stairs), but that just adds appeal to this cellar bar – if Aladdin was alcoholic he’d choose this as his cave.

Desdemona
Saddle up to the long copper-plated bar, or else take to one of the tables to drink under the green glow of a bankers light.

Dragon
The Dragon, a mock pirate boat, can be found anchored along the Dar Pomorza. An on-board bar and grill restaurant let you dine at sea without going anywhere.

Kandelabry
Kandelabry is not only a staff favourite, it’s also the place hostel staff and Gdynians-in-the-know will send you.

Kapitan Cook
Las Vegas meets Treasure Island. A surreal complex that is half pirate ship, half zebra skin lounge bar. Fishing nets and models of seafaring vessels pack the interior, and it's proved a popular summer hit with a crowd of all ages.

Klubokawiarnia
A bit of a hidden gem this. Head through the gate to the right of ul. Bema 19, down the steps at the back, give the bell a ring

Machina Pub
Well-hidden in the rear of a building across from the fire department, this small, unpresuming, underground bar allows you to lounge out over several love seats while sampling the long list of Polish craft brews and smoking wherever you want to.

Mefisto
Zodiac signs, gargoyles and burning candles lend this spot a vaguely Gothic undertone. Otherwise it’s an unremarkable bar drawing a range of characters from courting couples to smelly old men to beer monsters.

The Docker's Inn
Pubs located in malls don’t have to be tragic; unfortunately, The Dockers Inn does not support that statement. What is actually the most convincing Brit-a-like pub in the tri-city (Rover’s Return interior, a red phone box, etc.
