Seize the chance to see a large-scale sculpture installation by Magdalena Abakanowicz at Katowice's Silesian Museum. One of Poland's most internationally recognised artists, Abakanowicz (1930-2017) is known for her use of textiles as a medium for sculpture. This particular work - Bambini (1998-99) - is highly representative of her most famous works and consists of 83 humanoid sculptures (presumably of children, based on the title) without heads or hands, and made from concrete, glue, wood and fibres. The installation has been presented at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC, the Royal Palace in Paris, Warsaw, Berlin, Madrid, Milan and other European cities, and set a record in 2021 when it was sold at auction for 13.6 million Polish złoty.
