You don't even have to leave Brasov to see a fortified church: simply take buses N°5 or 9 to the end of Strada Lunga to see the oldest church in the city. Construction started in the 13th century, but the church was somewhat left in the suburbs when the Saxons decided to move their main settlement to Corona at the foot of Mount Tampa. Wander through the well-tended courtyard and admire the old sundial on the outside of the church. The current church tower dates from 1842: an earthquake destroyed the original in 1822.
