Familia Bistro

  ul. Kazimierza Górskiego 2, Gdynia      (+48) 884 92 25 14     more than a year ago
One of the many food options in Centrum Riviera in Gdynia, Familia Bistro is obviously leagues better than KFC and McDonalds and more than step above other smaller, bar mleczny-style operations.  The cuisine is described as Wileńska, meaning from Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and Familia Bistro is another to look east rather than west for its inspiration. The dishes, all made from family recipes, will look familiar if you know your Polish food, a fact which demonstrates the connection between Gdańsk and Vilnius. Before WWII, Vilnius was known as Wilno and was part of the 2nd Polish Republic, which saw many people moving to new areas, like Gdańsk, as new borders were drawn. We love the pierogi, which comes in different forms (Kibiny – dumplings with crispy pastry; Manty – steamed dumplings and Kołduny – small, round pierogi) and Pork Ribs marinated in a traditional Lithuanian liqueur sauce. There is a choice of soups and mains including fresh fish all hailing from the family recipe book and this is a great place for a lunchtime snack washed down with a glass of Kwas Chlebowy (Kvass), which is imported from Lithuania. Also at ul. Garbary 2/4, Gdańsk.
