Lawrence is the patron saint of Vrboska, so it is only right that he is honoured with a gorgeous church in the town. While it is somewhat overshadowed by the nearby fortified Church of St Mary, this delightful 15th-century construction gives the impression that it isn’t so interested in the spotlight. It is what’s inside that counts, after all. That is also true here in a literal sense; the altars inside the church are exquisite, and one of the island’s most revered (not to mention valuable) art collections has found a home here. From the altars to the ceiling, beauty is everywhere at the Church of St Lawrence. The feast day is celebrated on August 10, a day when Vrboska truly comes alive.
