While olive oil and wine cultivation dominates Hvar's independent production landscape today, you don’t need to be an ethnologist to understand the role fishing has played over the centuries. Without knowing how to find sustenance from the waters, life would have had a tough time surviving here. The Fisherman’s Museum in Vrboska pays homage to that proud history and culture of fishing, with particular attention paid to the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Traditional fishing techniques and equipment are displayed (including a fascinating look at fishing under lamplight), along with a deep dive into the life of a fisherman along the entire Adriatic. It is expected to open in late June or early July.
