Gdinj is located 25km east of Jelsa and 24km west of Sućuraj, and it sits some 361 metres above sea level. Similar to Zastražišće, Gdinj consists of several parts that spread across the north and south of the island. Dugi Dolac (2km from the centre of the village) is the nearest section to the main road. The other areas of Gdinj are Nova Crkva (which means New Church), Stara Crkva (Old Church), Banovi Dvori, Vrvolići, Talkovići, and Bonkovići. It dates back to the 14th century at the very least and is thought to have started out as a settlement for shepherds. The architecture of the village consists of complexes of stone houses with courtyards, and the entire area is surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. If you want peace and quiet, you’ll find it here.
