While we are somewhat wary of hyperbole, we’ve got no problem calling this one of the best museums in Croatia. Yes, the entire country. Located in a former elementary school in the village of Pitve (5km outside of Jelsa), the Viticulture Collection is a tender love letter to the magic of wine and all its powers, telling its story from the very beginning until the moment it passes your lips (and beyond). Packed with interactive displays, fascinating artefacts and an attention to detail that deserves acclaim, the museum covers everything from soil to barrel, showcasing just how important wine and all its traditions are to the island of Hvar. The award-winning museum is equal parts educational and entertaining, and there are plenty of quality wines to be enjoyed along the way. Whether you consider yourself an oenophile or just someone who enjoys a glass now and then, this is a must. Actually, even if you can’t stand the stuff, Pitve’s Viticulture Collection is a real Hvar bucket list item.
