The central park in Jelsa is home to a statue of Captain Niko Duboković, one of the most influential individuals in the town’s history. Created by Ivan Rendić, the statue honours the former mayor of the town and the man who did more than most to modernise everyday life in Jelsa. Duboković was a key figure in the development of the harbour, and you can thank him for draining the old malaria-ridden swamps.
