Okay, so a tunnel isn’t exactly a tourist attraction, but this is no ordinary tunnel. Covering 1,400 metres and only wide enough for single-file traffic, the Pitve-Zavala Tunnel was opened at the beginning of the ‘60s and fundamentally changed how life was lived on Hvar. It originally functioned for getting water to the source but was eventually developed into a traffic tunnel, albeit one that is unlit and features a wine cellar inside. Yes, a wine cellar. A cold and dark tunnel is ideal for a wine cellar, right? Zlatan Otok is the wine in question, taking advantage of storage space created for a no-longer-required water tank.
