Pitve is located between Jelsa and the southern side of Hvar. It is punctuated by stone houses, but there is something different about the soul of this place. Along with Dol, Pitve is the oldest settlement on the island and it sits at the entrance to the Vratnik gorge. The old settlement was actually built along the gorge, thanks primarily to the defensive benefits it offered. Pitve has preserved its centuries-old rural architecture, and the views of the sea, the mainland, Brač, Biokovo, and countless olive groves and vineyards are spectacular. The place with the most beautiful view is the Church of St. James the Apostle, first mentioned in the 15th century.
