Vrisnik is located in the widest part of the world, just 2km from Jelsa. It is one of the oldest villages surrounding the Stari Grad Plain. The people of Vrisnik built their stone fortress with retaining walls made of dry stone, and some 215 residents enjoy the village's harmony today. It is believed that the village's name comes from the word “heather,” a type of herb with a gorgeous scent. A warm breeze spreads the aromas of herbs in summer while the sun warms the grapevines, leading to a spectacular harvest in September. Vrisnik is one of the most picturesque places on Hvar, and a setting 252 metres above sea level provides stunning panoramic views of the Stari Grad Plain, the Jelsa Bay, and more.
